15 hours per week, hours flexible, to include some evening meetings (approximately 1-2 per month)

Our council and the role:

The council has seven elected members representing circa 790 residents. It is a rural council in North Hampshire which owns the SSSI land of Silchester Common. The applicant must be self-motivated as the only employee alongside the Litter Warden. The role will involve the maintaining of the financial records and preparing monthly accounts. A tremendous opportunity for an individual wishing to work at the heart of Silchester’s community affairs.

Duties will include:

  • Prepare agendas for monthly meetings, Extraordinary Meetings, AGM and the Annual Parish Meeting
  • Prepare minutes for the above meetings
  • Prepare and monitor an action tracker
  • Prepare the annual budget and complete/submit the Precept Form
  • Prepare monthly accounts – actual to budget comparison
  • Maintain the accounts software system (Rialtas)
  • Maintain the bank accounts
  • Pay suppliers monthly
  • Maintain the council website – Wordpress
  • Deal with all telephone and written correspondence as applicable
  • Support the Chairman
  • Liaise with the Planning Authority
  • Represent the council as applicable

The ideal candidate will have/be:

Must have good written and verbal communication skills, be very organised and self-motivated. Computer literate, with previous experience of Microsoft Office preferable. Relevant Local Government qualifications / experience an advantage but not essential as training will be provided.

What we offer you in return:

  • 15 hours per week, flexible hours, to include some evening meetings (1-2 per month)
  • Salary will be dependent upon ability and experience. The lowest starting pay band is SCP 7
